If you’re like me, you have come to think of the Obamas as your extended family. Michelle is your cool, smart, stylish aunty whose hair is always laid. Barack is the uncle you sit back and politic with over craft beer or fine whiskey. Then Sasha and Malia are your favorite cousins. I mean who doesn’t love the Obamas? (Ok we know people don’t like them, but these same people usually have an “-ist” attached to the end of the adjective that describes them best). With that being said, it is going to be a sad day when we have to watch them pass the torch.
If you haven’t been paying attention to the Presidential candidates let me give you a quick update. On the Republican side we have Donald Trump as the front runner and there is Governor John Kasich (OH-IO) making a little noise as well. On the Democrat side we have Mr. Feel the Bern himself, Governor Bernie Sanders and former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Personally I have been feeling the Bern since Day 1 and in my perfect world he would get the Democratic nomination, win the whole thing, and make America great — not again like Donald Trump’s ode to the oppressive ’50’s — just in general. However it is looking like Hillary Clinton is making enough of an impact to get on the ticket herself.
One of the more popular questions about the potential candidates is who will they be naming as their running mate for Vice President? Well, if Clinton gets the nomination there are rumors that First Lady, Dr. Aunty Michelle Obama herself could be named as Hillary Clinton’s second in command. Now, I said I didn’t want to stan for Aunty Chelle so I won’t anymore than I already have but I will say Hillary can get all of my vote if she wants to continue the Obama legacy in the White House.
Think about how dope this union could be. First of all, this would be the first nominated woman candidate for a major party, then on top of that two women! Not only that, but both women have been in the White House as First Ladies, so you can only imagine the inside knowledge they possess and the influence they have from their husbands supporting them in the background.
Just recently at HBCU Jackson State University, First Lady Obama delivered a commencement speech with a very political tone. She touched on voting rights registering to vote and absentee ballots, as well as racism and civil rights. She even touched on past commentary and accusations about her husband. It seems that in the last days of her White House tenure she is making sure to make her views about current events known. Maybe this rumor isn’t so crazy to believe.
What do you think? Would Hillary and Michelle make a power team? Could you see them dominating the ballot box? Let me know in the comments below.
